The 20th annual St. Nicholas Volleyball Tournament - October 17-19, 2025

Please join us in welcoming visiting volleyball participants from our sister parishes throughout the Metropolis. Games will begin promptly on Saturday, October 18th at 8:00am to 4:00pm at City Beach, 4020 Technology Pl, Fremont, CA and Sunday from 11:30am to 5:00pm at the St. Nicholas Community Center.

Glendi begins at 7pm on Saturday, October 18th in the Community Center.

All of the visiting school age children are welcome to join us for Sunday School on Sunday morning.

Fr. James and the Missions Ministry would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us for the Trek4Missions walk this past Saturday in Saratoga. Your presence, prayers, and support made the day truly special. Each step we took together was not only a sign of solidarity, but also a beautiful witness of faith and generosity.

We are deeply grateful for your commitment to this cause, and we are happy to report that as of the end of September we raised $1,650 through your generous donations. Again, this effort supports Orthodox missionaries bringing the light of Christ to communities around the world. There is still a little time left for our parish to meet our goal of $3,000. In centuries past, spiritual music in Russia was not confined to formal church services. Out beyond the walls of the church, it also flowed through monasteries, village gatherings, and daily life - monastic poems of ancient chant, spiritual chants of the late 17th - 21st centuries, folk poetry, songs of wandering lyre players or pilgrims, and much more. This was a spiritual music of ordinary people – songs on spiritual themes, or as
the performers themselves said, simply "songs in the presence of God."

In the first half of our concert, we’ll bring you these hidden treasures from the past – music that once echoed in candlelit monasteries and country fields centuries ago. In the second half, the journey continues into the present day. You'll hear how that same spiritual spark lives on in more contemporary music, linking our spiritual longings to numberless generations before us. You’ll even hear several pieces written especially for this concert by a Russian composer working closely with us. ABOUT SLAVYANKA CHORUS:
For 45 years, Slavyanka Chorus has been bringing Russian and Slavic music to Bay Area audiences. The chorus has toured Russia four times, produced 10 recordings, and, under its Artistic Director, Irina Shachneva, performed the American premieres of multiple choral works. The choir has also undertaken numerous initiatives to promote cultural understanding between the peoples of Russia and America
